Stars in the Pink Sky
Jameel
there are actually stars tonight
in this suburban wonderland
of lights and things to do
Land of the expensive
Home of the depraved.
Even a constellation tonight
before the Pink clouds roll in
and eat the little stars
with polluted breath.
but there are no heroes
out tonight, to play
beneath these new stars
that go round and around
celestial traffic jam
the heroes have taken to bed
too much evil to fight
too many bars to frequent
too much drunkenness to forget.
they've locked up poor Cassandra
her warnings were too wearying
her words too biting her lies
too true
for a world that knows its faults.
there were too many well dressed girls
making out with far too many
well dressed girls in dark corners
for the lonely men to handle.
But Tonight there are actually stars out
and the ocean drowns the sound
of airplanes and automobiles
the world can rest for a second
and then go back to killing itself
with coffee, cigarettes and booze.
