To My Daughter

I slip into your room each evening before retiring for the night,
Just to stand and watch you sleeping and make sure you're covered tight.
You would probably feel embarrassed if you knew that I did this,
For you feel that you're too old now for me to tuck in or to kiss.
I wonder what you're dreamimg for there's a smile upon your face,
Have you become a fairy princess in some far and distant place?
In a not too distant future when you've left this home for your own,
I'll relive these nights in my memory so I will never be alone.
Someday you'll stand as I do and watch your children in their sleep,
You'll think of all the heartaches that from them you cannot keep.
You'll kneel in prayer beside their bed and ask the lord above,
To guard them and protect them and to share with them his love.

THE NURSE

A dainty white cap upon her head, a smile upon her face,
Her heart filled with compassion, her movements filled with grace.
No matter what your problem is she tries to understand,
And she is always williong to lend a helping hand.
We take all she has to offer but seldom give a thaught,
To the fact that she gets tired, her nerves get overwrought.
What would we do if we awoke and found that she had gone?
Would we then appreciate the things that she had done?
NO! Knowing human nature, of this I have grave doubt,
Self pity I'm inclined to think would fill our hearts throughout!!!
